BIG or Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft m.b.H. was founded in 1992.
Before that federal real-estate property in the Vienna region was managed by the Federal Buildings Directorate Vienna (Bundesbaudirektion Wien), and in the other provinces by the Federal Buildings Administrations (Bundesgebäudeverwaltungen).
Efficient Merger
With the amendment of the BIG Act of December 29, 2000 the objectives of Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft were redefined. Since then the aim has been to organise federal real-estate property and property requirements in accordance with economic and market-oriented criteria, to raise cost awareness in respective ministerial departments and to achieve efficient space management.
Successful Merger
The first outsourcing phase referred to parts of the federal real-estate portfolio only. In June 2006, the concept devised in 2000 culminated in the merger of BIG and its subsidiary BIG Services - Immobilienmanagementgesellschaft des Bundes m.b.H.
The synergy effects achieved with this amalgamation enabled BIG to positionitself as federal property manager.
